As a photographer and now also a video creator, it’s ALL about the quality of work. To create something visually dramatic, perhaps emotive alongside those key essentials to make sure the photograph or video is doing and saying the right thing for the brief. Whether it’s a corporate headshot, brand photoshoot or a sports kit needing to be photographed, my attention to the important details never wavers. My standards for quality production are as high as can be and you will only ever get photography or video content that I am proud to give to you.

Ballet portrait photoshoot
I really enjoy meeting new people, finding out a little about them and on the photoshoot capture something that represents them or something that shines out to me. However meeting up with old friends is pretty cool too. I have shot Sarah before but this time was with her daughter Honey. At the moment I'm experimenting with lights and processes along with trying to develop a style of portraiture for this kind of shoot. It's defo work in progress but like the way it's going so far. There's a stillness to the shots, even though she was acting out ballet movements it wanted to capture a precise point in the movement and space. Honey was a delight to work and a huge amount of grace and poise to her ballet but also a very happy teen bursting from the seams.
Fashion photography Leeds - urban street
The warmer weather has arrived, time to photograph without goosebumps on the models. :)
Steffi and I have worked together before and will do again I’m sure. This session was short and sweet just playing around with a couple of t-shirts, skirt and trousers. Keeping it simple to just play with mood and style.
Style/mood and direction came from myself.

I’m always on the lookout to work with new people, to create something fresh. Sometimes I have a really strong idea of a style and look to a shoot and based on that hunt for someone to match. This shoot and style pointed to a new friend, Kate who not only made the clothes I bought for the shoot look great but took direction perfectly. Bang on my brief and very happy with the results. Such a pleasure to work with and already have new shoot ideas to work on together.
Sports shoe product photography
I spent two days putting together this shoot, the first day experimenting with lighting, adding powder explosions then compositing them all together. I guess a way to test if it was going to work all together when I did it for real. The second day I photographed the new shoe and put this piece together. A nice challenge to do something a little dramatic, beyond just photographing a product with lights. Hopefully showing off skills in photographing the product and then putting the final design together.
Food photography
More studio work while in lockdown, this time making some studio moody food photography suitable i suppose for use in books, online blogs etc. For me its all about the image, it doesn’t matter what the subject matter quality production is my key focus. With a lengthy background in design I completely understand how the photography needs to work well for your brand and how to produce it working its best for print and online.

Always great to catch up with Tom, this time I put him in the studio environment. I played around with a light and dark set up to create a couple of moods.
Sport fitness photography London
I was invited to shoot some sports fitness photography for Tala for a new range of kit down in London. Early March for a fitness photoshoot is always a challenge and the cold weather didn't disappoint. While sharing the 3 models with the other team of videographers the challenge was to not get in each others way and be seen in the background. A mixture of inside and outside was needed but the cold was hard to deal with for the models. I needed to find a nifty solution. As I wandered around the facility I noticed some areas where sports equipment was being stored. The added benefit being what sun there was helped make this space warm against the huge windows. This space made for some nice contrasty sports fitness photography shots against the netting and the large windows became softboxes creating lovely light. WIN! You have to make the jobs and situations you find yourself in and as a photographer its always helped by some creative thinking!
Clay shooting photography
Always a pleasure working with Hull Cartridge on their shooting days. The photography ranges from telling the story of the day's events, product advertising shots for magazine etc to a few portraits on the fly to add to their website and blog pages. Great bunch of people on the team who always make me feel one of the gang and to the shooters they sponsor. I look forward to the coming events on the calendar.

Sport fitness photographer
I'd been commissioned to shoot a new range of kit for a sports fitness brand and wanting to make the most of my trip to London hooked up with a model the day before. Conditions were far from ideal for sports bras and shorts, bitterly cold to the bone. Huge respect to the model for her commitment to her trade. A mutually beneficial meeting to add to our portfolios.
The client shoot the next day was not any better for those models weather wise but at least we were all getting paid for it.
Cycling Sportswear and Activewear Photography
Activewear photography is probably my favourite thing to shoot for my range of clients. It’s that mix of partially sports and partially fashion photography combined. The balance is to create activewear photography that makes the product look great while the athletes/models are using it. My preferred look and mood is when the athletes just do their thing and I’m floating around, laying by the side of a road or ahead photographing them as they scale a mountain. Or photographing them in between sessions as they munch on bars and take a drink, just hanging out as cyclists do, hanging off their handlebars. I think getting the right models/athletes for the job is vital to give it the right mood/tone and voice. For most jobs the model selection is led by myself to help the client. If the models have been chosen well then my job becomes much easier and the brand style rises to the top. This particular shoot I was invited to photograph the new range of gear over a long weekend in southern Spain. Springtime can be lovely their but on this occasion the weather was little up and down. In a couple of days we photographed a large range of gear in standing posed scenarios and of course some fun photographing them climbing up and down the local mountain range
Grime photography - Leeds
Grime photography stands out for me, the music and the artists who create. It has a relative short history alongside other music types but in its short time a real defined feel to everything about it, to the music of course but also those who produce it. How they look, behave and the culture of the scene. My aim initially is to photograph the local grime artists in Leeds and maybe document the places they produce their work including shooting the head to head battles. From there who knows, London is where it all started so maybe my work will take me there too.
Sport brand photography
An early start to the day to meet a new friend for some sports brand photography on a very cold and wet day. After and initial poor start, very cold and windy with low light I started with using a very small strobe but quickly decided against that. Just wasn’t the look I wanted to achieve I had conceived before the day. So with the weather gods behind us, we managed to shoot outside and make use of this amazing brutalist architecture, peering through gaps in the walls as India flew past. Hats off to her for being amazing and happy for me to direct the whole shoot in pretty bad conditions.
Traffic photos for The Floow
Great to be invited to photograph for The Floow creating for them a new suite of images to support their wide range of communications and new website. The range of shots included photographing team members, in and around the office, the tech used in vehicles and various road and traffic scenarios.
Running photos - Yorkshire Road Relay Championships
Great show of runners and talent at the Yorkshire Road Relay Championships 2018 at the weekend. A mixed bag of typical Yorkshire weather throughout the day and was indeed more annoying to a working photographer than the competing athletes on the track. Awesome effort from everyone who took part.
Band music photographer
A very good friend of mine has been playing/performing in a band for years. A real lover of Blues and rock and roll and was my pleasure to photograph his band practicing one winter evening. This band music photography is nothing new but I enjoy creating and this documentary style of band photography. It would be nice to do more of this kind of photography. Such fun listening to what they play as I work.

Fashion photography - Leeds, Manchester and London
I scouted for locations for this fashion photography shoot, looking for something that was plain but interesting in texture. On a relatively sunny day I found quite a few places but fell upon a lovely location - a communal outside space with raised beds full of palms and against the flats in the background with the sun shining, it almost had a California look to it (well sort of). The next day came working with Lucy and a firm idea of look and mood. I got her working the look perfectly, she’s a great newbie on the scene but sure she will do well. However sadly for us, this day was cold and rain came down within the first hour… so off to shoot inside from a window, making the most of our time together.
Product photography
As the world goes into lockdown to counter the Coronavirus it was time to look for another way to be resourceful as a photographer and still keep working. Product photography came to mind and with no previous experience but with a spare room full of studio lights I made a start. First off to photograph the bottle, then the fruit and with some Photoshop wizardry to composite them all together to hopefully create a dramatic hero shot.
