Musician portrait

Musician portraits Leeds, Yorkshire

Creating portraits has become one of my favourite things about being a photographer. It's a real balance between trying to be creative and understanding the person who's in front of you... then the artistry of editing each image. If you don’t understand your sitter, how can you create something authentic?

I absolutely spend too much time editing but it is important for me to treat the image with respect in the final part of the process. What's the point of adding a filter and sending straight back to the client. Where's the fun and level of quality in that? I really enjoy trying to find out as much about the client as possible and coming up with a moodboard I think will suit them best for the day's shoot. Then there's always a little practice session a few days beforehand to try out a new light set up. Then on the day, I'm ready to just get to know the person a little more, listen to some great music and have a few laughs as we work together. It's a partnership together to create good photography. One person cannot make it work. I refine the photography as we go to suit the mood. Sometimes things happen out of the blue but pretty much my pre-shoot ideas sheet is followed to keep things on track.

For a friendly chat about how I can help you create your portrait, give me a call.
